The organisers of the Emirates Dubai 7s have announced that the 2021 tournament taking place on December 2-4th will be part of a rescheduled HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series for 2021.

Fans of the Emirates Dubai 7s will be used to the tournament taking its place as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series opening event. The 2021 season will be unique though stretching from May to December.

Dubai will host both the Men and Women's competitions as in previous years, but with both tournaments taking place on pitch one and pitch two for the first time since the inception of the Women's Series.

The 2021 Series kicks off with back-to-back women's events in Marcoussis, Paris, on 15-16 and 22-23 May. The Series will then take a break for the countdown to the Olympic Games and recommence with a men's event in Singapore on 29-30 October, followed by joint men's and women's rounds in Hong Kong on 5-7 November, Dubai on 3-4 December, followed by an exciting climax in Cape Town on 10-12 December.

Detailed discussions are continuing with London and Vancouver on the viability of hosting men's events in the window following the Olympic Games and before the HSBC Singapore Sevens in October. Further updates to the schedule will be given when available.

South Africa Men and New Zealand Women return to The Sevens Stadium as defending champions. They will battle with teams from across the globe who will be fresh of Olympic participation in Tokyo this summer.

Emirates Dubai 7s Tournament Director Tom Burwell spoke of the announcement today;

"We are hugely excited to take our place on the rescheduled 2021 season. The Emirates Dubai 7s will be a celebration of sports and entertainment with players and spectators travelling from all over the world to attend. It is now less than nine months until the kick-off of what will be our greatest ever show"
