DUBAI, UAE - The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens Long Lunch once again proved to be a resounding success with rugby stars Matt Giteau and Scott Quinnell keeping the 700-strong audience enthralled with rugby anecdotes and opinions.
The annual event consistently proves to be a highlight of the rugby calendar in Dubai and 2011 was no different as the duo had the crowd hanging on every word.
Giteau talked about growing up in a Rugby League-crazy family and his experiences as part of the Australian squad, while also touching on his disappointment at being omitted from the Australian team for Rugby World Cup 2011.
Giteau, who hails from Sydney, has represented Australia in 92 Tests and two previous World Cups. Having made his debut against England in 2002, he was named as one of the five best players in the world in 2004.
After leaving Dubai, he will be heading to Europe, having signed a three-year deal with French Top 14 club Toulon.
Quinnell, meanwhile entertained the audience with many a colourful stories of life of tour with the British and Irish Lions as well as the Welsh team he represented on 52 occasions.
He made his international debut in Rugby Union in 1993 and also enjoyed a stint playing Rugby League. He toured with the British Lions twice, to South Africa in 1997 and Australia in 2001 and has also represented the Barbarians.
The hugely popular event marked the countdown to the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens which will took place from December 1-3 at The Sevens venue.
